Our Biggest DIY Project Yet: An Exciting New Addition is on the Way!
If you’ve noticed my absence over the past few months, there’s a wonderful reason for it. We’ve been secretly pouring our hearts and souls into what is undoubtedly our most significant DIY project to date. After much anticipation and careful planning, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are expecting our second baby next year! Our little bundle of joy is set to arrive in February, and we truly couldn’t be more excited about expanding our family. I must confess, this announcement post has been a work in progress for quite some time; I started drafting it last month but, blame it on ‘pregnancy brain,’ I never quite managed to finish it until now!
For a long while, my husband and I were convinced we were “one and done” parents. We cherished our son, Ryder, and felt our family unit was complete. However, something shifted last year. After our annual family photos, we looked at the images and, though filled with love, a subtle feeling of incompleteness lingered. It was a feeling that prompted deep reflection and many heartfelt conversations. I prayed extensively about what our next step should be, seeking guidance and clarity. Ultimately, I realized that my heart wasn’t fully settled, and I felt a strong pull to try and see if God would bless us with another miracle. That profound shift in perspective led us on this incredible journey, and we are overflowing with gratitude for this new chapter.
Crafting Our Second Baby Announcement: A DIY T-Shirt Creation
When it came to announcing our second pregnancy, I knew I wanted to do something personal and fun. Naturally, I gravitated towards a custom t-shirt announcement. As many of you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with creating custom t-shirts, and when you’re fortunate enough to own a heat press and a Cricut machine, making your own unique apparel becomes an irresistible urge! The creative possibilities are endless, and there’s such a sense of satisfaction in bringing your vision to life right in your own craft room.
My inspiration for this particular design actually dates back to 2012, when my dear friend Pamela announced her second pregnancy with a similar t-shirt concept. Back then, custom shirts for pregnancy announcements weren’t nearly as common as they are today, and her ingenious idea quickly made waves. She was inundated with orders from her readers, a testament to her creativity. Unfortunately, a few larger companies later copied her unique design without giving her due credit. So, I want to take a moment here to acknowledge Pamela and her brilliant innovation. Her idea was truly genius, and I’m proud to carry on a version of her creative spirit. While I hadn’t looked at her original shirt since she first posted it, I remember loving how she cleverly abbreviated “expiring” and integrated the birth month. It was a detail I definitely wanted to incorporate into our own special announcement.
Beyond the Tutorial: Simply Sharing Our Joy
Today, I’m not diving into a detailed tutorial on how to create this specific shirt. Instead, my primary focus is to simply share the incredible news of our new little addition with all of you. Sometimes, the most important posts are just about connecting and sharing life’s big moments. The journey to a second child has been different, yet equally as magical as the first, and we’re excited to bring you along for the ride.
It’s a Girl! Embracing All Things Girly and Preparing for a New Chapter
And now for the exciting reveal that everyone’s been waiting for… In case you’re wondering about the gender of our February baby, it’s a GIRL! Yes, you read that right – a sweet baby girl is joining our family! When we first found out the gender, both my husband and I were completely in shock, a delightful surprise that left us beaming. Interestingly, our son, Ryder, seemed to have an uncanny intuition about it all along. Every time we asked him what he wanted, he consistently said he wanted a sister. It seems his little gut feeling was spot on, and we’re so happy to confirm his wish!
Get ready, because this means a whole new world of “crazy girly projects” is heading your way in the very near future! From dainty nursery decor to adorable outfits, I’ve already started pinning away on my secret Pinterest board, collecting countless inspirations for a beautiful baby girl nursery. The thought of designing a soft, feminine space is incredibly exciting, and I can’t wait to share the progress and finished look with you. We’re envisioning everything from delicate color palettes to charming handmade accents, all designed to welcome our little princess.
On a side note, let’s talk about the unique challenges of photographing a toddler during such an important announcement! Ryder, with his boundless energy and innate desire to explore, was far more interested in playing with sidewalk chalk than standing still or posing for photos. Capturing those sweet, candid moments often feels like a mini-marathon, but the results are always worth the effort and the memories we create.
Nesting, Renovating, and Future Creative Endeavors
Until our little girl arrives, we have a list of tasks that feels the size of California to get done around our not-so-new house. It’s hard to believe we’ve already been living here for a year! The nesting instinct is in full swing, and we’re eager to complete various home projects to prepare for our growing family. From organizing and decluttering to potentially tackling some minor renovations, every item on the list feels more urgent with a baby on the way. We’re determined to create the most comfortable and functional space for our expanded family, and you can expect to see some of these home improvement journeys shared on the blog.
Despite the current whirlwind of pregnancy and home preparations, I’m truly hoping to resume sharing a new project at least once a week here on the blog. I have a queue full of fun and creative projects that I’ve been working on, or have ideas for, and I’m eager to bring them to you. It just takes a bit more energy these days to sit down, write compelling content, and edit all the photos – but I promise, I’ll get there!
