Despite this initial hurdle, we fell in love with the sprawling property, its ideal location, and the fantastic bonus of two double garages. We knew then that with a bit of vision and a lot of work, we could transform this house into the open, inviting home we had always dreamed of.

For over a year after we moved in, that tricky alcove area with the two chairs on the left side of our living room was my personal design nemesis – a persistent “thorn in my side.” I’m thrilled to report that those days are behind us! This means noting the width and height of door openings, the span of windows, the size and location of your fireplace, built-in shelving, or any other architectural elements that impact furniture placement. 2. Draw a Detailed Room/Floor Plan on Graph Paper: Once you have all your measurements, transfer them to graph paper.
