2. Painter’s Tape: Crucial for creating a clean, defined rim, mimicking the distinct two-tone look of many vintage crocks. Choose a high-quality tape that offers sharp lines and easy removal without damaging your paint.
3. Textured or Matte Spray Paint: The magic ingredient for achieving that stoneware look. A textured stone-finish spray paint is ideal, or a good quality matte or flat spray paint in an off-white, cream, or light gray shade can also work wonders. Consider a paint + primer formula for best results.
4. Fine-Grit Sandpaper (220-320 grit): Essential for preparing the surface. Light sanding helps the paint adhere better, ensuring a long-lasting finish.
5. Cleaning Rags and Mild Soap: For thorough cleaning of your ceramic piece before painting. A clean surface is vital for a smooth, even paint application.
6. Transfer/Stencil for Number: To add an authentic “grade” or identifying number, common on vintage crocks. A reusable stencil or a vinyl transfer works perfectly.

  Gently peel back the painter’s tape immediately after applying the paint for the number, or once the main spray paint has cured completely. This ensures the cleanest lines. Allow the chalk paste to dry fully. That’s it! Your DIY antique-look crock project is complete.
