If you’ve taped everything securely and applied paint evenly, you’ll find that none of the paint has seeped through the cardstock, resulting in crisp, clean lettering. You’ll notice that the small inner pieces for the ‘a’ and ‘e’ might still be attached to the fabric. This is where your craft tweezers come in handy! Gently use the tweezers to carefully peel up and remove these leftover cardstock pieces, revealing the complete, beautiful “Harvest” word.

With your paint prepared and stencil secured, carefully begin rolling the black paint onto your drop cloth, ensuring the stencil is fully and evenly coated. Take your time to achieve a rich, consistent black.
Once the paint application is complete, it’s time for careful removal. Use your craft tweezers to gently lift the stencil from the fabric. Then, slowly and deliberately remove the painter’s tape that framed your “Beware” phrase. This reveals a crisp, framed Halloween message.
To enhance the Halloween theme, I wanted to add a distinct raven silhouette to my design. You can achieve this using another stencil or even freehand painting if you’re confident. Position your raven stencil carefully and secure it with tape. For an added detail and to guide my painting, I placed a small rhinestone 3-dimensional sticker precisely where the raven’s eye would be. This ensured the eye wouldn’t shift while painting the raven’s body and added a subtle sparkle. After painting the raven, carefully remove its stencil.
Now, allow both painted pillow pieces (the “Harvest” and “Beware” sides) to dry completely for a full 24 hours. This extensive drying time is crucial for the paint to properly cure. At this point, you can decide whether you prefer the tulle to be free-flowing, extending outwards from the pillow, or tucked inwards and sewn into the final seams for a more contained look. I personally found that tucking it in and allowing it to be part of the seam created a more polished yet still playful look for my pillow.

You now have a sandwich: “Harvest” (right side up), zipper (face down), “Beware” (right side down). Carefully pin all three layers together, ensuring the edges are perfectly aligned. This precise pinning is vital for a straight zipper.
Switch your sewing machine to a zipper foot. This specialized foot allows you to stitch very close to the zipper teeth, creating a snug and neat finish.
