- Waverly Lagoon Chalk Matte Paint (or any preferred blue chalk paint)
- Waverly Mineral Chalk Matte Finish Paint (or a contrasting chalk paint for stripes)
- Self-Adhesive Shelf Liner (for the interior)

- Sandpaper (fine-grit)
- Painter’s Tape (for crisp lines)
- Cleaning supplies (mild soap, water, cloth)
- Measuring tape and scissors (for shelf liner)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Case: Thoroughly clean your makeup/train case. Remove any dust, dirt, or grime. A mild soap and water solution works well. Ensure it’s completely dry before proceeding.
- Spray Paint Exterior: In a well-ventilated area, apply 2-3 thin, even coats of white spray paint to the outside of the case. Follow the manufacturer’s directions on the can for drying times between coats. Allow ample time for the final coat to cure.
- Paint Interior: Using the Waverly Lagoon chalk paint (or your chosen blue hue), paint the inside of the case. Apply 2 coats for rich, opaque coverage, allowing adequate drying time between each.
- Tape for Stripes (Optional): If you desire stripes on the outside, use painter’s tape to create your design. Press the tape down firmly to prevent bleed-through.
- Paint Striped Area: Apply the Waverly Mineral chalk paint (or your contrasting color) to the taped areas. Once painted, carefully remove the painter’s tape while the paint is still slightly wet to achieve clean lines.
- Distress for Shabby Chic Look: Once all paint is completely dry, lightly sand the outside edges, corners, and any raised details with fine-grit sandpaper to create a naturally worn, distressed look. Wipe away any dust with a clean, damp cloth.
- Line the Interior: Measure the interior surfaces of the train case (bottom, sides, lid compartments). Cut the self-adhesive shelf liner to fit these areas precisely. Carefully apply the liner, smoothing out any air bubbles as you go, to give the inside a clean, finished appearance.
