From Dream to Reality: My Journey Setting Up a Resale Booth

For the past three weeks, my days have been a whirlwind of activity, meticulously preparing a curated collection of items for what I hoped would be my inaugural resale booth. The initial target was Old Bank Antiques and Collectibles, a truly inspiring shop renowned for its unique treasures and captivating atmosphere. I envisioned my space there, filled with carefully selected vintage finds, upcycled furniture, and distinctive home decor, each piece ready to find its new home. The anticipation was palpable, fueling countless hours of sourcing, cleaning, painting, and polishing every item to perfection. My dream was clear: to create a booth that wasn’t just a display of goods, but a reflection of passion for revitalizing forgotten pieces and bringing beauty back into people’s lives.

The Unexpected Turn: A Change of Plans and Perspective

As Thursday night rolled around, the excitement of our impending trip to Old Bank Antiques was overshadowed by a stark realization. We began loading the truck, and it quickly became apparent that our collection amounted to approximately three full truckloads of inventory. This wasn’t merely a minor inconvenience; it posed a significant logistical challenge, especially considering the drive to the shop spanned a little over four hours each way. The sheer volume of items, coupled with the considerable distance, initiated a serious discussion about the practicality and sustainability of this venture. How would we consistently restock? What would be the cost in time and fuel? The energy and dedication required to maintain a thriving booth so far away began to feel overwhelming.

Adding to our concerns, Lake Martin holds a special place in our hearts as our cherished weekend vacation spot. The thought of being constantly tied down, making frequent four-hour round trips just to keep the booth filled and looking its best, started to erode the appeal of the original plan. Our weekends are a time for relaxation, for creating memories, and for escaping the daily grind. Committing to such a demanding setup would undoubtedly compromise that precious family time. After much deliberation, weighing the pros and cons of the distance, the effort, and the impact on our personal lives, we made the difficult but ultimately sensible decision: it would be best to find a closer location for my resale venture.

A Twist of Fate: Donating and Discovering New Opportunities

The following Friday morning, with a mix of sadness and mild discouragement, I made the call to cancel my space at Old Bank Antiques. It was tough to let go of the initial vision, but I knew it was the right decision for the long run. Turning to my husband, Mr. reFresh, I expressed my immediate need to clear out some of the amassed inventory. “Who knows when I’ll find another suitable place to sell all this wonderful stuff?” I mused. Without hesitation, we loaded up the truck once more, this time heading to Habitat Restore. This decision wasn’t just about clearing space; it was a conscious step towards one of my personal goals: to give back to the community and support Habitat for Humanity’s incredible mission. It felt good to know that these carefully chosen and prepared items, even if not sold by me, would still contribute to a worthy cause.

My husband called me twice while he was at Habitat Restore, recounting an amusing exchange with “Mrs. Restore.” She was apparently quite astonished by the quality and quantity of the donations. “Is she crazy?” she exclaimed, “This is some great stuff!” Her reaction was heartwarming, affirming the value of the pieces we had contributed. It was a tangible way to fulfill my goal of helping Habitat, and the satisfaction was immense. Mission accomplished, or so I thought.

The Sweet Irony of a Speedy Sale

Later that same Friday night, an unexpected turn of events unfolded. I received an email, quickly followed by a phone call, informing me of a prime spot available in Pooler – a mere 45-minute drive from my home. This was an opportunity I hadn’t imagined would materialize for months, if ever, in such a convenient location. My mind immediately raced, and with a mix of amusement and a touch of regret, the first thought that popped into my head was of all the fantastic items I had just donated to Habitat! The timing was almost comically perfect.

The very next morning, Saturday, I found myself heading back to Habitat Restore, half-joking, half-serious, with the notion of trying to buy back some of my recently donated inventory. As I walked in, Mrs. Restore greeted me with a huge hug and a beaming smile. “Thank YOU!” she exclaimed joyfully. “I sold all your stuff, the very same day Mr. reFresh delivered it!” Her enthusiasm was infectious, and my momentary regret dissolved into genuine delight. It was truly awesome news! Not only had the items found new homes quickly, but they had generated much-needed funds for Habitat, fulfilling my philanthropic goal perfectly. And as luck would have it, since I had accumulated about three truckloads originally, I still had “a little left” to kickstart this new, closer venture.

Embracing a New Beginning: My Booth at Two Women and A Warehouse

With renewed enthusiasm and a perfect location now secured, I moved into my sweet spot at Two Women and A Warehouse in Pooler on Tuesday. This marks a significant milestone for me – my very first venture into establishing and managing a resale booth. The experience of setting up this space has been incredibly rewarding. I carefully arranged each item, considering flow, aesthetic, and how each piece would interact with its neighbors. From a charming vintage vanity to artfully repurposed crates and unique decorative accents, every detail was placed with intention. I focused on creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages discovery, where shoppers can envision these treasures in their own homes.

This journey has been a testament to perseverance and embracing the unexpected. The initial challenges, the pivot in plans, and the surprising speed of events have all culminated in this exciting moment. I’m incredibly excited about this new chapter and the potential it holds. The energy within the warehouse, surrounded by fellow passionate vendors and unique finds, is truly inspiring. My hope is that this excitement will be contagious and sustainable, driving me to continue curating beautiful, refreshed pieces for this wonderful community. It’s a learning curve, for sure, but one I am tackling with immense passion and anticipation.

A Glimpse Inside: My Curated Collection

I’ve been talking so much about the journey, but now it’s time to let the pictures speak for themselves! Below, you’ll find a visual tour of my newly established booth. Each image captures a different angle and highlights a selection of the unique items I’ve carefully chosen and prepared. You’ll see a mix of furniture, decorative objects, and quirky finds, all curated to bring character and style to any home. I believe these visuals truly convey the essence of what I aim to offer: quality, charm, and a touch of history.

The Vibrant World of Two Women and A Warehouse

Beyond my own little corner, the entire store at Two Women and A Warehouse is a treasure trove, constantly filled with awesome stuff. It’s a dynamic space where you can discover a fascinating blend of items – some genuinely old, steeped in history and character; some brand new, offering contemporary charm; and most wonderfully, many are refreshed, upcycled, or given a new lease on life. This eclectic mix ensures that there’s always something for everyone, whether you’re searching for a specific antique, a unique gift, or a piece to perfectly complement your home decor. The atmosphere buzzes with creativity and the thrill of discovery, making every visit an adventure. It’s a community of vendors, all passionate about bringing unique items to shoppers, creating an ever-evolving marketplace of inspiring goods.

Balancing the Hustle: Life as a New Entrepreneur

Embarking on this new entrepreneurial journey has been exhilarating, but I must admit, it’s also been incredibly demanding. The past few weeks, filled with sourcing, refreshing, setting up, and promoting, have left little time for much else. I’ve found myself inadvertently neglecting my email inbox, falling behind on Facebook and Twitter interactions, and even my poor friends and housework have taken a backseat. It’s the typical hustle of a small business owner pouring their heart and soul into a new venture. While I thrive on this creative energy, I also recognize the importance of balance.

My hope is to gradually get back on track with my digital life and personal responsibilities very soon. However, before diving back into the full swing of things, I’m looking forward to a much-needed break. I’ll be spending Easter with my wonderful Mama and family, enjoying some quality time and recharging. So, you might not see much of me online until next week, but rest assured, my passion for finding and refreshing unique items continues to burn brightly, and I’m excited to share more of this adventure with you.

A Special Thank You on the Horizon

PS: I have an awesome friend to tell you all about next week! Her invaluable support and belief made this entire venture possible, and I can’t wait to share her story and express my gratitude for her role in bringing this dream to life. Stay tuned!
