Let’s begin our journey right here at the front door. Come on in, everyone! Our home truly comes alive during the summer months, reflecting the long, hot days that call for light, bright decor and ample opportunities for outdoor entertaining. My decorating philosophy often leans towards transformation rather than constant tidiness. You’re more likely to find me immersed in a painting project or moving furniture around than meticulously styling every corner for a perfect photoshoot. My ideal way to refresh a room involves clearing it out, giving it a fresh coat of paint, and then thoughtfully restyling it, often by repurposing beloved pieces from other areas of the house. This dynamic approach keeps our living spaces feeling fresh and personal.

The Welcoming Entryway: Garden Gate Charm

For our entryway this summer, I wanted to evoke a serene garden gate aesthetic. The goal was to keep it effortlessly simple, seamlessly blending the beauty of the outdoors with our indoor space. This concept brings a calming, natural element right to the first impression of our home. Imagine stepping through a whimsical garden entrance, greeted by the freshness of nature. We’ve incorporated elements that suggest this theme, using natural textures and subtle greenery to create an understated yet impactful welcome. The focus is on a natural flow, ensuring the transition from outside to inside feels organic and inviting.

Bright and Airy: Our Summer Living Room Oasis

Now, let’s move into the heart of our home, the living room. This space is truly a sun-drenched sanctuary, bathed in incredible natural light throughout the day. This abundant sunshine is not only a mood booster for us but also creates the perfect thriving environment for our beloved fiddle leaf figs, which absolutely flourish in this bright corner. My approach to summer living room decor focuses on maintaining an open, airy feel, allowing the natural light to take center stage and create a sense of spaciousness. We opt for a palette that complements the season – think crisp whites, soothing blues, and refreshing greens – all contributing to a calm and inviting atmosphere. The furniture is arranged to encourage relaxation and conversation, with comfort being a key priority.

For the mantel, I chose a beautifully minimalist approach, allowing the natural elegance of fresh hydrangeas to take center stage. Their voluminous blooms bring a touch of classic summer charm and a pop of serene blue to the room. Complementing these beautiful flowers are leaves from our enormous hosta plant, which generously provides an endless supply of lush greenery for vases throughout the house. This simple yet impactful arrangement highlights the beauty of natural elements, keeping the decor unfussy and organic.

On our coffee table, the succulents are thriving, adding a wonderfully low-maintenance yet vibrant touch to the living area. They fit perfectly with our garden-inspired theme, bringing in diverse textures and a subtle green hue that anchors the room’s natural aesthetic. Succulents are fantastic for summer decor because they require minimal attention and maintain their fresh look even in warmer temperatures. Their sculptural forms provide visual interest and a connection to the natural world, reinforcing the light and airy feel we aim for in our summer living room. It’s these small details that truly bring the outdoors inside and create a cohesive, natural flow throughout our home.

Outdoor Living at Its Best: Our Deck and Patio

Just beyond the living room lies our inviting deck dining area, one of my absolute favorite spots to begin the day with a cup of coffee. This versatile space truly transforms with the seasons, but it shines brightest in summer. I’m always finding new ways to incorporate my DIY milk glass jars, using them as charming vases for fresh cuttings and creating a lovely vintage touch. With the addition of twinkling party lights and comfortable seating, this area remains a cherished spot for both daytime relaxation and evening entertaining, whether we’re hosting friends or simply enjoying a quiet night under the stars. The ease with which this space adapts makes it incredibly functional and enjoyable all summer long.

Our Inviting Lower Patio: An Outdoor Room for All Seasons

Directly beneath the deck is our go-to spot for unwinding during the afternoon and evening. Not long after we moved in, we invested in an under-deck system, which has been a game-changer as it keeps this entire patio area perfectly dry, allowing us to enjoy it regardless of the weather. It truly feels like an extension of our indoor living space, a true outdoor room. About a month ago, I experimented with colorful tablecloth curtains to add a vibrant touch, but I recently switched them out for a more neutral look with these crisp white ones, which provide a fresh and serene backdrop. This simple change drastically alters the mood and creates a sense of peaceful retreat. DIY Touches and Entertainment Hub

Our outdoor entertainment setup is also a highlight here. Barry and Justin cleverly ran speakers out to the patio, and we added an “el-cheapo” TV, which, believe it or not, has become a cherished addition for enjoying sports and our favorite HGTV shows on lazy afternoons. It’s all about creating a relaxed, comfortable environment for easy summer living. And speaking of long-lasting additions, that little refrigerator tucked behind the chair is a veteran of about 10 years! I initially wasn’t keen on it taking up space out here, but I found a way to cleverly camouflage it, and honestly, it seems destined to last forever, proving its worth for keeping cool drinks at hand during outdoor gatherings.

The Ultimate Outdoor Grilling Station

We custom-built the grilling area shortly after moving in, and I genuinely believe we could comfortably live out here during the warmer months! This patio presented a unique challenge with its natural slope, but we saw it as an opportunity. We ingeniously incorporated a small step-down for the sink area, which was essential; without it, the counter would have been far too tall. We tiled the top for both aesthetics and durability, and to elevate the look, we ordered sleek doors from Amazon. We also meticulously positioned the siding to mimic the popular shiplap style. I often wonder about the timing – we might have been “BS” (before shiplap) was a huge trend! This custom outdoor kitchen area is truly the hub of our summer entertaining, blending functionality with a beautifully crafted design, making every cookout a joy.

I confess, I probably redecorate this outdoor space almost weekly! I absolutely love experimenting with different decor elements and seeing how they transform the vibe. The Dollar Tree hats have been a particular favorite this spring and summer. For just five dollars, they add a playful, whimsical touch and are incredibly versatile for styling – a true testament to affordable decorating fun!

Simple Comforts: Our Summer Bedrooms

Now, let’s sneak a peek into a couple of our bedrooms. My philosophy for these spaces, especially for summer, is to keep things simple, serene, and utterly comfortable. Don’t expect elaborate overhauls here; instead, it’s about subtle changes that enhance the feeling of relaxation and tranquility, perfect for unwinding after a long summer day. As usual, during one of my recent bedding changes, a common (and adorable) interruption occurred…

Yes, that’s Murphy, the official doodle of Refresh Restyle, making himself quite at home and proving that even during a bedroom refresh, some things are just too comfortable to resist!

The Master Bedroom: A Haven of Calm

Our master bedroom bedding is a luxurious treat, graciously provided by Crane & Canopy. We chose their Hayes Nova Dove Grey duvet set, and I absolutely adore its elegant color and incredibly soft feel. It genuinely feels like sinking into a luxurious hotel bed every night, offering a peaceful retreat. The beautiful feather pillow adds a unique artistic touch, a treasured piece from the Craftberry Bush collection from a year or so ago. Lucy, the creative force behind Craftberry Bush, isn’t just known for her stunning peonies; she’s a truly talented artist, and this pillow brings a piece of her artistry into our space. The soft grays and blues in the room contribute to a calming atmosphere, perfect for rest and rejuvenation.

I fell head over heels for the feather study art pieces a couple of years ago while vacationing with friends in beautiful St. Simons, Georgia. Despite the temptation to buy more, I exercised restraint and came home with just two pieces, which perfectly complement the serene ambiance of our master bedroom. Their delicate beauty adds a touch of nature-inspired elegance and a cherished memory of that lovely trip.

The Welcoming Guest Room: Pops of Coral and Gray

In this guest room, the subtle changes made a big impact. The vibrant pink/coral blanket and the coordinating feather pillow, both sourced from Target, were the only new additions. These pieces instantly injected a refreshing burst of color and a soft, welcoming texture, transforming the room into a cozy haven with a modern yet relaxed feel. It’s a testament to how just a few well-chosen accessories can completely refresh a space for the summer season, making it feel current and inviting for our guests.
