Unlocking Creativity: Our Instagram-Themed Door Decoration Triumph at SNAP! Conference
Returning from the vibrant energy and inspiring connections forged at the SNAP! Conference in Utah, I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most memorable aspects of my trip. My apologies for being a little “MIA” this past week, but immersing myself in the world of blogging, creativity, and community with incredible friends was an experience worth every moment away from the screen. The conference was an exceptional opportunity to learn, grow, and reconnect with fellow bloggers, including my fantastic roommates, Melissa from No. 2 Pencil and Kristin from Yellow Bliss Road.
A few weeks prior to the conference, an exciting announcement lit up our inboxes: SNAP! would be hosting a door decorating contest! For any blogger who has ever packed for a conference, you know the pre-trip hustle is real. The endless to-do lists, the last-minute chores, the content scheduling – it’s a marathon before the actual event. Adding “decorate a hotel door” to our already overflowing plates initially felt a tad daunting. However, the allure of a creative challenge, coupled with the opportunity to infuse some personality into our temporary home away from home, quickly won us over. Our collective creative minds were more than ready to rise to the occasion, transforming a simple hotel door into a canvas of our digital lives.
The Spark of Inspiration: An Instagram-Worthy Idea
Our collaborative journey began with a series of late-night Facebook private messages, spanning over a week of intense brainstorming. We knew our door design needed to be three things: simple to execute on-site, creatively impactful, and most importantly, fun! It was Melissa who struck gold with the brilliant suggestion of an Instagram themed door. I was instantly captivated by the idea – no pun intended! As a devoted Instagram user who shares a multitude of photos daily on my Instagram account, the concept resonated deeply with me. It felt authentic, personal, and perfectly representative of us as visual storytellers.
The beauty of the Instagram theme was its inherent ability to showcase our individual blogging personalities while creating a cohesive visual narrative. Each of us meticulously selected between 20-40 of our most representative Instagram photos. These weren’t just random snapshots; they were curated glimpses into our work, our passions, our families, and the unique aesthetics of our respective blogs. In addition to our personal photo selections, we also printed a clear headshot of ourselves and our blog logos, ensuring our identities were clearly visible and welcoming to passersby. The logistics of printing were surprisingly seamless; we utilized the Walgreens app, which conveniently offers 4×4 square prints for a mere 39 cents each. This made printing over a hundred photos both affordable and incredibly easy, directly from our phones. (Just a quick note: this isn’t a sponsored mention for Walgreens, merely a genuine tip on how we efficiently brought our digital memories to life in physical form).

From Digital Concept to Physical Reality: The On-Site Transformation
Fast forward a few days to our arrival at the bustling SNAP! Conference. With our bags unpacked and the initial excitement of reunion settling in, it was time to tackle our door decoration. We had our stack of beautiful Instagram prints and a general theme, but the exact layout was still a work in progress. Initially, we considered a more intricate design, perhaps arranging the photos into a large heart shape. However, as we contemplated how to best incorporate the vibrant “Oh SNAP!” printable that Kristin had so thoughtfully designed, we realized that an overly complicated layout might detract from its impact. Sometimes, simplicity speaks volumes.
This led us to a pivotal decision: rather than overthinking, we opted for a clean, impactful grid arrangement. The goal was to create a visually appealing mosaic that would draw attention and clearly communicate our theme, while also making Kristin’s printable a focal point. This approach allowed for a dynamic display of our collective digital lives, making our door a true conversation starter amidst the flurry of conference activities. The beauty of collaborative DIY projects is often the evolution of ideas and the willingness to adapt for the best possible outcome.

The Essential Tool: Damage-Free Hanging with Command Brand
A crucial element in our door decorating strategy, and indeed for all conference-goers participating in the contest, was the availability of damage-free hanging solutions. Thanks to the generosity of 3M Command Brand, we had an endless supply of their innovative Command Strips at our disposal. These strips are an absolute game-changer for temporary decorations, especially in hotel environments where avoiding wall damage is paramount. Their strong hold and clean removal properties provided us with the peace of mind to unleash our creativity without any concerns about leaving a mark. With our arsenal of Command Strips ready, we eagerly began the meticulous task of hanging all 102 Instagram photos.
After carefully determining the optimal placement for our “Oh SNAP!” sign, we (Kristin, as pictured above, leading the charge) embarked on the detailed process of affixing each photo, one by one, to our door. This wasn’t just sticking pictures; it was about curating a visual story.
Here we are, deep in discussion, strategizing the perfect alignment and spacing for our photo grid. Every picture represented a piece of our blogging journey, and we wanted them displayed just right.
Knee-deep in a sea of vibrant Instagram photos, the excitement grew with each strip we peeled and each photo we placed. The transformation was truly captivating to witness.
Achieving perfection meant a bit of tweaking! Ensuring every photo was perfectly straight and aligned contributed to the overall professional and appealing look of our final design.
Seriously, I couldn’t have been prouder of our door! It was so incredibly personable, reflecting our unique styles and shared passions. It truly felt like an extension of our digital selves, brought to life in a tangible, welcoming way for everyone at SNAP! to see and appreciate. The vibrant mosaic of our Instagram feeds created a visually engaging and friendly greeting for anyone passing by our room.
The Verdict and a Sweet Victory
So, what do you think of our Instagram-inspired masterpiece? I genuinely believe our door stood out as pretty darn cool. It was a testament to teamwork, creative problem-solving, and the simple joy of sharing our passions through a visual medium. The feedback we received from fellow attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many stopping to admire the personalized touch and clever concept.
And the absolute cherry on top of this creative endeavor? We won the Snappy Doors contest! The announcement was met with cheers and high-fives, validating all our efforts. The prize was a fantastic $200 for our room to spend at the highly anticipated Queen Bee Market, an artisan market brimming with unique handmade goods. This unexpected bonus was the perfect way to cap off an already incredible conference experience, allowing us to indulge in some well-deserved shopping and take home some beautiful mementos. It underscored the spirit of community and friendly competition that makes conferences like SNAP! so special.
Stay tuned next week for a comprehensive recap of my entire SNAP! experience, including all the insights, connections, and perhaps even some of my Queen Bee Market finds. I’ll also be sharing details about the breathtaking tulip festival I was fortunate enough to attend while in Utah. Until then, keep creating and connecting!
